Answer Orako questions from a Slack DM
Orako messages each specialist directly in Slack with the question and a Claim button. They reply in the thread; the answer flows back into Orako. No new tab, no new login.
Before you start
Setup steps
Start the connection in Orako
On the project’s Integrations page, click Connect Slack. Orako opens Slack’s install screen and asks you to pick the workspace. Approve the requested permissions. That’s the fast path: Orako fills in the credentials for you and you can skip to step 5.
Set it up manually / self-hostedOptional
2. Create the Slack app
Go to api.slack.com/apps → Create New App → From scratch. Name it “Orako” and pick your workspace.
3. Add the permissions Orako needs
Under OAuth & Permissions → Bot Token Scopes, add exactly these four:
chat:writesend the question DMim:writeopen the DM channelusers:readmatch a Slack user to a teammateusers:read.emailauto-link teammates by emailInstall the app to the workspace, then copy the Bot User OAuth Token (starts with xoxb-).
4. Point Slack back at Orako
Copy the Signing Secret from Basic Information → App Credentials. Then paste these two URLs from the Orako Integrations page into Slack:
https://app.orako.io/slack/events/<your-project>https://app.orako.io/slack/interactivity/<your-project>Paste the credentials into Orako
Back on the Integrations page, enter the Bot Token and Signing Secret and save. Orako shows Connected.
Two ways teammates get reachable on Slack
If a teammate’s Orako email matches their Slack email, Orako links them the first time a question routes to them. Nothing to do.
A teammate opens Settings → Notifications, picks Slack, and pastes their Slack member ID (avatar → Profile → the “⋯” menu → Copy member ID). An org admin can also fill this on the teammate’s card under Members.
U01ABCDEFU01ABCDEF). We use it only to deliver questions, never to read your messages.Good to know
Orako only sends DMs and reads the reply to its own message. It can’t see the rest of your Slack.
Orako doesn’t check who’s online. It messages every matching specialist and the first to claim owns the question.
Disconnecting stops delivery immediately; teammates fall back to the dashboard with no data lost.
