Human-in-the-loop for Aider

Aider is a terminal-first pair programmer that works directly against your git repo, and it is the one agent on this list without native MCP support: as of July 2026 its config reference lists no MCP options, and the MCP pull requests were closed unmerged. Here is what that means for human-in-the-loop, honestly, and what actually works today.

Aider and MCP: the honest state

  1. 01

There is no MCP entry for Orako to add to Aider itself, because Aider has no MCP client support yet.

  2. 02

Community bridges exist (mcpm-aider) that expose MCP tools to Aider without patching it; they are experiments, not official.

  3. 03

The reliable path today: keep Orako's dashboard open next to your Aider session and ask the domain owner there; answers are delivered and preserved in searchable history.

The honest answer

No fabricated config

We keep this page honest on purpose: no fabricated config for a client that doesn’t exist. When Aider ships native MCP support, this page will carry the real snippet.

What still works with Aider

The honest answer about Aider and MCP, and what works today.

Pre-commit sanity checks

Before /commit on a behavior change, ask the feature owner in Orako whether the new behavior is intended. Slower than a tool call, still faster than a reverted PR.

Questions that outlive the session

Ask through the dashboard, keep pairing with Aider, and the answer arrives in Slack or Discord for the owner and in the dashboard for you.

Ready the day Aider ships MCP

Your Orako setup (domains, owners, searchable history) is agent-agnostic. If native MCP lands in Aider, it's one config entry away from the same ask loop the other agents have.

Aider + Orako, answered

Does Aider support MCP?

No, not natively as of July 2026. Aider's configuration reference lists no MCP options and the pull requests adding MCP support were closed without merging. Any setup guide showing a native Aider MCP config is describing something that doesn't exist.

What is mcpm-aider?

A community bridge that manages MCP servers and exposes their tools to Aider without modifying Aider itself. It works as an experiment, but it isn't maintained by the Aider project, so treat it as unofficial and test carefully before relying on it for team workflows.

Can my team still use Orako alongside Aider?

Yes. The delivery side of Orako doesn't care which agent asked: questions raised from the dashboard are dispatched to domain owners in Slack or Discord, answered, and preserved in searchable history exactly as if an MCP agent had asked.

What happens to the answers?

Every resolved conversation becomes searchable team history with its authors, date, tags and full context. Agents call search_history before asking, so a question your team already answered can be reused instead of pinging anyone again.
